What type of packaging does SGK Global provide?

SGK Global provides export-grade packaging including corrugated cartons for lighter cargo, wooden crates for fragile or high-value items, palletization for consolidated freight, and custom-built crates for oversized or irregular cargo. All packaging is built to withstand international ocean and air freight handling and is marked to ISPM-15 standards for export compliance. We assess each shipment's fragility, weight, and dimensions to recommend the right level of protection.

Does SGK build custom crates for oversized or fragile cargo?

Yes. SGK's crating team builds custom crates on-site at our Houston facility for oversized machinery, oilfield equipment, vehicles, artwork, glass, and any cargo that will not fit in standard packaging. We engineer crates with internal bracing, shock-absorbing foam, vapor barrier lining, and tilt-and-shock indicators for sensitive loads. Every custom crate is designed to the cargo's exact dimensions and the carrier's loading requirements.

Is SGK's export packaging ISPM-15 compliant?

Yes. All wooden packaging materials used by SGK Global — pallets, skids, crates, and dunnage — are ISPM-15 compliant, heat-treated or fumigated, and stamped with the IPPC mark required for international export. Non-compliant wood packaging can result in the shipment being refused entry at the destination port, so we never use unmarked lumber. Compliance documentation is available on request.

Can SGK pack hazardous or dangerous goods for export?

Yes. SGK Global is equipped to package dangerous goods for both air and ocean transport in compliance with IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations and the IMDG Code. Our team is trained to identify the correct UN packaging specification, apply the required hazard labels and markings, and prepare the dangerous goods declaration. We handle flammable liquids, corrosives, compressed gases, and other hazard classes subject to carrier acceptance.

Where does packaging and crating happen?

SGK Global performs packaging and crating at our Houston, Texas facility, which is co-located with our warehouse and consolidation operations. Cargo picked up elsewhere in the United States is trucked to Houston for crating, then loaded for export through the Port of Houston or Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport. For large project cargo we also offer on-site crating at the customer's facility anywhere in the continental United States.
