High and heavy lift shipping is the international transport of cargo that exceeds the size or weight limits of standard shipping containers — typically pieces over 20 tons, longer than 12 meters, or taller than a standard container. This cargo moves on specialized flat-rack containers, open-top containers, Roll-on/Roll-off (RORO) decks, or breakbulk on heavy-lift vessels. Each shipment requires engineered stowage, custom lashing, and often a marine surveyor to certify the cargo is secured for ocean transit.

SGK begins every high-heavy lift shipment with a cargo survey to capture exact dimensions, weight, center of gravity, and lifting points. We then engineer a transport plan covering U.S. inland heavy-haul trucking (including permits and pilot cars), port handling, vessel selection, stowage and lashing plans, marine surveyor certification, and destination handling. Full project plans are documented and reviewed with the client before any cargo moves.
Which destinations does SGK serve for project cargo?
SGK Global moves high-heavy lift and project cargo primarily from Houston to Lagos, Port Harcourt, and other Nigerian destinations, with extended service to Accra, Douala, Luanda, and other West and Central African ports. For energy and infrastructure projects elsewhere in the world we coordinate with vetted heavy-lift partners at destination. Project cargo routings and pricing are quoted on a per-shipment basis after the cargo survey is complete.
